7 Awesome Action Sequences that make you go YASSS!

Furious 7 - the Bus Scene

Action movies for me should be watched solely for the purpose of watching something go BOOM! The more far-fetched, the better! Sadly, after watching too many movies over the course of my life, the usual high-speed car races and one-man-versus-a-thousand scenes tend to lose their novelty. Thankfully, every now and then someone gets filled with the holy spirit and an overdose of creativity and adrenaline and we get…. These.

BLAH BLAH BLAH, THIS MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.

Here they are. In no particular order (I couldn’t choose if I tried,) my top 7 favorite scenes that make you go YAASSSS!

1.    The Bus Scene

Just by the title, you should know which scene that is. There is only ONE. BUS. SCENE. The Movie: Fast and Furious 7. Brian (Paul Walker) was TOO SLOWWW and got locked in a bus as it went careening off the side of a cliff. With a stroke of bad judgment, he decided to climb his way out from the door that was hanging off the side of the cliff rather than the door that was still on land. No worries though – he’s a fast runner. As soon as he climbs out the door, the bus begins slowly sliding off the edge and we realize that no matter how fast he runs on top off the bus, the whole bus is going to fall off the edge before Brian can reach the end.

Thankfully though, our favorite female car-racing badass has more skills than just driving fast. She also has ESP. Through some sort of psychic wizardry, Letty knows that Brian is in danger and speeds off in his direction, braking and spinning just in time and at just the right distance so the tail of her car slides off the edge of the cliff in perfect timing for Brian to catch it.

2.    The Flying Tank

The Movie: A-Team. The Flying Tank scene itself follows another one of my favourite scenes ever. Captain Murdock’s Great Escape via the 3D glasses. I’ll save that scene for another day though.

Murdock and the team escape in a plane which so happens to have a tank inside. This is perfect, because the plane was shot down within moments of take-off. Thankfully, the team manages to save themselves by jumping into a tank suspended by 3 parachutes. Now, they’re falling from the sky in a 100-ton tank at an ever-increasing speed when they start to open fire at their pursuers.

Now, here comes the best line ever.

“Are they trying to shoot down our drone?”

“No... They’re trying to fly the tank.”

3.    Yippie-ki-yay, Motherf***er

As quoted by the iconic John McClane (Bruce Willis) in his epic Die Hard movies. Probably the best scene in any of the Die Hard movies and maybe in the world!!! – the last scene from Die Hard 2. The bad guys are escaping in a plane. McClane may not be able to fly, but don’t worry. He has other skills. A few shots put a hole in the gas tank. It doesn’t even matter that the plane has already taken off. Physics doesn’t stop John McClane.

Cue John McClane one-liner: “Yippie-ki-yay, mother f***er!”

*Drops lighter into stream of leaking gas.*

Oh, did I mention that the plane is already in the sky? Doesn’t matter. BOOM!!!!

4. We need guns. Lots of Guns.

So this probably isn’t as fantastical as the other scenes in this list – probably because it’s The Matrix, and anything is possible. It’s still awesome though. You know you want to watch it.

5.Bus Jump

Well, why shouldn’t we have to Keanus in a row? I was a bit torn between this scene and jumping the train. Both are beautiful, but I decided to stick with the bus. In case you don’t know the movie, it’s Speed—Probably my first favourite action movie. The general premise – there’s a bomb in a bus full of passengers which will explode once they drop below 50mph. So what do they do when they accidentally reach the end of an unfinished highway? Jump the gap, of course. I mean… like… why wouldn’t they jump the gap.

 6.    Lykan Hypersport Vs. The Eithad Towers

Yeah, I know we already had a flying tank, but what can I say? Flying stuff that isn’t supposed to fly is awesome. This is also the second scene I’m using from Furious 7, because that’s probably one of my favourite action movies ever. So when someone steals a multi-million dollar car from a Prince of Dubai—why wouldn’t they drive it out of a skyscraper – repeatedly.

7. Car kills the Helicopter

Another act of epic heroism by our favourite action hero: John McClane. There’s a helicopter with a bad guy in it that John needs to destroy. John doesn’t fly! But I’m pretty sure we’ve all learned by now that that really doesn’t matter. Oh, this was Die Hard 4.0 by the way.

 8. Clive Owen Takes a Coffee Break

(BONUS SCENE!! – Because I added it after the post was published, and I’m not going to change the title or permalink.) If you’ve seen “Shoot ‘em Up,” this movie is just filled to overflowing with WIN scenes, and probably the most far-fetched action sequences ever. These include fighting the bad guys while: delivering a baby, holding a baby, having sex, drinking coffee, and more! The Coffee part was one of the best… ahhhhhh. The sad part is though, that I can’t find it on YouTube. So.. You have to use your imagination. Or go watch the whole movie.

I’m really tempted to add like 10 more scenes from Furious 7, and probably a few more from Die Hard, but my fingers are tired from typing so we’ll save them for a new article.

What are your favourite awesome action sequences not included here? Let me know in the comments!
